Brad Muirhead & Farley Johansson Science Friction

Tuesday July 10, 2012 @ 12pm Wednesday July 11, 2012 @ 5pm Victory Square 200 W. Hastings Street (at Columbia)

22 musicians and five dancers take over Victory Square to create a sonic and visual experience. With music created to blend and amplify the "natural" noises and sounds found in a city and made to measure choreography, this ensemble improvises and moves with the surrounding environment to create a performance unlike anything you've ever seen. Brad Muirhead is well known to audiences across Canada and Europe for his powerful sound and inventive improvising and has been actively contributing to the Vancouver music scene since 1980. He has performed, recorded and toured extensively with his own groups as well as many Vancouver's most important large jazz ensembles. He has been heavily involved with the Vancouver improvised music scene, composing for, recording and performing with numerous small and large ensembles, both as a leader and sideman, as well as working as a freelancer and musical contractor. He continues to be very active as a bandleader, composer, music educator and creative project instigator and director. Farley Johansson is an independent performer, teacher, and choreographer currently based in Vancouver, Canada. He studied Classical Ballet, Modern and Contemporary Dance at the New Zealand School of Dance. He is the Co-Artistic Director of Science Friction, which was formed in 2003 with partner Shannon Moreno. Farley has had his work shown in Canada, Germany, England, Serbia and Brazil. He has danced with Kassel Tanztheater, Osnabrück Tanztheater, Staats Oper Unter den Linden-Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Edam Dance, Wen Wei Dance, Movent, Kinesis Dance, The Holy Body Tattoo, Ballet Victoria and the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
