I had a chance to visit Lamondance at the RNB Dance studio in North Vancouver on Friday to observe and photograph a studio rehearsal for their upcoming show Here and After. I had first heard of Lamondance from Christie Lee Manning of Industry Dance Magazine when she was with Lamondance last year. Through a connection with Lara Barclay, one of the co-directors of the company, I had the opportunity to visit and photograph one of their rehearsals with the permission of co-directors Davi Rodrigues and Monica Proenca.
Lamondance is a unique dance company in Vancouver, BC in that the company has students visiting from Brazil for a cultural dance exchange. When I was observing, I was amazed and inspired by the Brazilian dancers' passion, physique and prowess. This company gives a unique culture exchange for Canadian dancers to expose them to the passion, culture and level of talent coming from Brazil as well as for Brazilian dancers to gain exposure and adapt with a Canadian connection.
Lamondance Here and After show is on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 4pm and 7pm in the Faris Theatre at the Dance Centre. I am looking forward to experiencing this unique blend of Brazilian and Canadian dancers dance to beautiful choreography by Lara Barclay, Monica Proenca and Davi Rodrigues.
